Patriots News · Senior Athlete Profile of the Week

Welcome back Patriot Track and Field news fans. We are starting off this first week with Kennedy Rucker, Senior state qualifier & veteran leader.

On being an overcomer…

Being an overcomer to me, means battling adversity and making the most out of what I have. The fact that we are even able to have a season is something that I am eternally grateful for.

What motivates you…

What motivates me is that this is my final year of track. I want to go out with a bang since this is the last time I will ever step foot on a track and compete in a meet.

On being a leader…

I plan to be a leader by holding my teammates accountable and guiding them in the right direction so they can stay focused. Hopefully the way that I lead will trickle down for years to come after I leave. My biggest thing is accountability. Holding yourself and your teammates to a higher standard will make the whole team better

What meet are you most excited about…

I’m most excited about relays this year. My favorite meet is the KU relay invite but it’s cancelled this year due to covid so my next favorite meet is the Bill Summa meet at Chrisman.

What are your goals for the season…

My goal this year is to break the record in the 100m dash. To do so, I know I have to put my head down and get to work. After that, the next event I would look to break the record in, is the 200m dash.

How have you been preparing for the upcoming season?

I have been preparing mentally and physically by staying focused and poised and keeping my goals in the back of my head to motivate myself to go out and have a great season.
