On a rainy, muddy course the Truman Boy’s and Girl’s teams took to the starting line with one goal in mind. Compete! Mental toughness is a part of any distance runner when the elements of weather become adverse. The Patriots showed great perseverance to overcome the elements and compete to find success as a team. The boy’s team finished in 1st place, led by Senior Josh Nunn in 2nd place clocking a time of 17:03 for the first 5k of the season. Jack Getman followed closely behind in 3rd place with a time of 17:15. Rounding out the scoring for the Patriots John Crump 10th place, Garrett Burton 16th place, and Caleb Nunn 19th place. This was Senior Garrett Burton’s first 5k race of his career, as he splits time with the Patriots soccer team. On the girl’s side, the team finished in 2nd place with Sophomore Molly McClung running a fabulous race for 3rd place overall in a time of 22:19 for 5k. She was followed by her teammates Jayda Cisco 4th place, Jewelia Nichol 9th place, Madeline McGregor 25th place, and Tania Olah 28th place. Jayda, Madeline, and Tania competed in their first ever 5k races. It will be a quick turnaround for the Patriots as they compete in their next meet on Wednesday at Turner High School.
